New Direction for ANZAAB's Melbourne Rare Book Fairs

Commencing in July 2012 the Australian and New Zealand Association of Antiquarian Booksellers' biennial Melbourne Rare Book Fair will become an annual event.

The 39th ANZAAB Australian Antiquarian Book Fair will be held from Friday July 27 to Sunday July 29, in conjunction with the University of Melbourne Cultural Treasures Festival. The Book Fair will be held in the University's historic Wilson Hall, with free admission to all visitors.

Leading Australian booksellers will be joined by Maggs Bros. and Peter Harrington from London, and Ursus Rare Books and Antipodean Books, Maps and Prints from New York. They will be offering for sale an impressive array of fine, rare and collectable books, prints, maps and ephemera, at prices to suit all budgets.

ANZAAB's 2012 Charity Partner is The Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

The ANZAAB Melbourne Rare Book Fair is part of the inaugural Melbourne Rare Book Week

In the week leading up to the 39th ANZAAB Australian Antiquarian Book Fair ANZAAB will present Melbourne Rare Book Week (July 19 to 29) – an informative and entertaining celebration of the book and the joy of collecting – in keeping with Melbourne's designation as a UNESCO City of Literature, with free admission to all events.

Book lovers will find something to interest and entertain them during this extended week of free lectures, exhibitions and entertainment – whether discovering what their old books are worth during the State Library of Victoria's rare book day, admiring rarely seen treasures at our libraries and universities, enjoying the correspondence between Helene Hanff and a London rare book dealer that was the basis of the book and film '84 Charing Cross Road', or seeing how an innovative sculptor gives new life to discarded books.
