Twilight has taken a staggering global total of $283.5 million (£181 million) on its opening weekend.
Breaking Dawn - Part 1 has halted a box office slump at the US box office, with $139.5 million (£123 million) of the total coming from domestically. The supernatural smash contributed to an overall movie-going take of $222 million (£141 million) in the US, up 14% from last year’s total, according to Deadline.
The numbers mean that the new movie has recorded the fifth best opening weekend of all time, as well as the third best-ever single day for its Friday opening, which took $72 million (£46 million).
