Applications close next week for Auckland Museum Research Grants

The New Zealand Society of Authors in association with the Auckland Museum are delighted to be offering three new financial grants to provide assistance to writers wishing to undertake research for a writing project.
Offered for the first time in 2011/12, the purpose of these grants is to create an opportunity for three writers to utilise the facilities and resources of the Auckland Museum Library in the development of their manuscript. The grants comprise one national grant and two smaller grants for local writers and are available for fiction and non-fiction writers.
‘The Museum Library is one of New Zealand’s major research libraries’ said Bruce Ralston, the Museums Library & Information Services Manager. ‘The depth of material available for use by the general public as well as academics and researchers, is highly valued throughout New Zealand and internationally.’
The national grant offers a stipend of $3,500 and is open to any current NZSA member. The two local grants are for $1,500 each and are open to NZSA Auckland Regional members and members of the Auckland Museum Institute / Friends of the Museum. In all cases research must take place at the Auckland Museum Library.
Applications open 3 October and close 30 November. The winner will be announced early February 2012. The Selection Panel comprises Bruce Ralston, Graeme Lay and Rae McGregor.
