Publishing director Jocasta Hamilton bought UK, British Commonwealth (including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India) and Europe rights in Eve: 200 Million Years of the Female Body by Cat Bohannon from Natasha Fairweather on behalf of Elyse Cheney. The book intends to give women an "in-depth understanding of why our bodies are the way they are, and how biology and evolution affects our day-to-day experience".
Hamilton said: "Since I joined Hutchinson we've been looking to buy a seminal work of non-fiction that explores what it means to be female today. Though I didn’t know that book would feature eukaryotes, Marie Antoinette's hair and a menopausal orca, Eve is exactly the proposal I've been waiting to read.
"Wide-ranging, ground-breaking, agenda-setting, intelligent and always engaging, this is a book that will generate headlines, encourage debate, become necessary reading – and make women feel good about their thighs."
Hutchinson plans to publish as a hardback in spring 2015 followed by a Windmill paperback in 2016.
