From PANZ:
One of the great older generation of New Zealand publishers, David Bateman, died in Auckland this morning, Friday December 23, following a major stroke.
Outgoing, urbane and a major force in the critical growth of publishing in this country, he founded David Bateman Publishing in 1979. Though he was semi retired for the past 15 years, he remained the chairman of the company. David was well liked and highly regarded by the trade. He was a life member of PANZ.
David’s funeral will be held at Dil’s Funeral Services, 185 Schnapper Rock Rd,
Albany, on December 26 at 3.00pm.
PANZ will publish a full obituary of David Bateman in the New Year and the thoughts of the association are with the Bateman family.
Footnote:
The Bookman is greatly saddened by this news and will also comment further in the New Year. My deepest sympathy to Janet and the family.
