Theo-Lib-Watch: "The End of Church as We Know It"

A few takeaways.  (1)  Some churches, especially the liberal ones,
have lost the sense of their duty and calling. In many instances, they have lost their theologies, confessions and old Prayer Books.  In hosts of other instances, they have no substantial music, e.g. the Baptacostals and other enthusiasts. (2) The author below asks an
elemental question, e.g. “Making Disciples of Christ.” (3)

Diana Butler Bass: "Can Christianity Be Saved? A Response to Ross Douthat

Diana must have her PhD in a field other than systematic theology and historical theology?  Perhaps one narrow tradition?   She's a retread from the Baptistic world (Biola, I think) onwards into the liberal TEC.  (For readers, stick to the classics.)  This op-ed by Diana is "pretty thin stuff," theologically and historically.

Is Liberal Christianity Actually The Future?

One of the more interesting responses to my column on liberal Christianity came from the Huffington Post’s Diana Butler Bass, whose new book, “Christianity After Religion,” considers many of the same trends I take up in “

On God’s Truth, and Man’s Hypocrisy

The hypocrisy of those on the left has ceased to amaze me. It is not that they do not care about how it makes them look; it is that they are incapable of seeing how it makes them look.
Want some recent examples? Here are just a tiny fraction of the ones that have come out just this past week:

NAACP's Divorce from Black Church

H/t:  Reformed
African American Network (RAAN)

Did the NAACP Divorce the Black
Church?--"Claiming that `marriage equality' is a civil right, the NAACP
board voted 62-2 to back that policy. In doing so, the NAACP decisively cut
itself off from its roots in the black church."

They posted this article.

3 Lessons from Crisis and Decline in the Mainline

At Christianity Today we often speak of the summer months as the "church report season," as many denominations hold their annual meeting or conference during this time of the year. The two words most often used to describe mainline

Meet and Greet:
Third Personal Encounter with Theological Liberals

Again, we
are developing a series of posts on “Meet and Greet:  Personal Encounters with Theological
Liberals.”  Again, we are aware of the
technical and historical definition of 19th-20th century “theological
liberalism.”   For my children reading this, “theological
liberalism” is a long story.  The Veitchs

Midwest Conservative Journal: Sound-off Against TEC GC's 2012

The TEC thinks they should be central, vocal and visible.  Well, they are.  Institutionally, they are run by "egopapists." Or, blind narcissists, self-evidentely. Or, meglomaniacs without reasons.  Or, "Gasbags" for cause and with merit. This is TEC's theological and cultural legacy.  MCJ offers a reasonable screed here, one of justifiable frustration.  We recommend following MWJ and linking

We were present and participated in the vote,

union with the PCA.  Ergo, in a short space,

One Personal Engagement with a

It’s not weighty,
profound or singular, but it is “an” evening musing on “one” (of many) interactions with
theological liberals.  Let me quickly give
you a quick sense of it.

Background. Years ago, while
studying at the Navy War College, Newport, RI, an opportunity to attend area
churches was present.  (Through years of

Pat Robertson Says Episcopal Church is Becoming Apostate

Televangelist, Baptacostalist, and revivalist Pat Robertson offers his views on the TEC and apostasy in the leadership. The prompt for Robertson’s remarks was the legal eviction of Falls Church Anglican, VA from their property (as an aside, Robertson, an enthusiast, claims descent from Rev. Hunt, the first Anglican cleric at Jamestown, VA...regrettably, Robertson is far from that lineage).

Mindless Churches & Youths: "Generational Blackmail?"

Dr. James West, a philosophy Professor at Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI, posts a good question in his post, "Generational Blackmail."  These kind of questions have been posed often so as to exclude Biblical, Confessional, and liturgical worship.  “Oh, the young people won’t like it…they won’t
come...we better do this.”  These type of questions have been
