Reminder about Wellington event tonight

John Boyne, author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas on stage in Wellington

Award-winning Irish writer John Boyne will discuss his books for adult and younger readers at a one-off event in Wellington on September 3.  Boyne is best known for his powerful World War II novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, an international bestseller that was adapted into a Miramax feature film in 2008. John Boyne is the author of nine novels, and his books have been published in over forty languages. His most recent adult novel, The Absolutist, was published in 2011.

John Boyne will be in New Zealand in September promoting his new children’s book, The Terrible Thing That Happened To Barnaby Brocket, a fantasy about a baby who is born to fly. His one-off appearance in Wellington will be a rare opportunity to see the Dublin-based author on this side of the world.

Boyne will be in conversation with Book Council Director Noel Murphy, who has known Boyne since they worked together in a bookstore in Dublin in 1997. Murphy’s knowledge of John Boyne’s work and their long friendship will make for a lively and engaging conversation.

Book sales will be available at the event, thanks to Kilbirnie’s The Children's Bookshop. The tour is supported by Random House.

To secure your seat please purchase tickets in advance through the Book Council’s website.
