Nick Hornby's sister debuts as novelist

Little, Brown has won a hotly contested six-way auction for two novels by Gill Hornby, sister of Nick Hornby and wife of Robert Harris. The publisher described Hornby’s début The Hive as “wise, touching and very, very funny”.
Editor-in-chief Antonia Hodgson bought British Commonwealth rights through Caroline Wood at Felicity Bryan Associates for an undisclosed sum. The Hive will be published under the Little, Brown/Abacus imprint in spring/summer 2013.
The book focuses on the friendships and rivalries among a group of women in their 30s and 40s who meet at the school gate every day, following the progress of their relationships over the course of a school year.
Hodgson described the book as “breathtakingly good; filled with brilliant observations, lovable characters and some of the funniest scenes and one-liners I’ve ever read. It’s the kind of book you want to recommend to everyone you know, because you know they’re in for a huge treat.”
