Selling has never been one of my strong points. Sure, I’ve worked retail gigs where I had to sell some jeans or maybe some electronics. That is not what I’m talking about. No, I’m talking about a much more important – but more difficult – type of selling. What I’m referring to is selling yourself. Selling yourself! What does that mean? Selling out? No, selling yourself simply means letting people know about who you are, what you do, and how your services, products, or ideas can benefit them. Selling in this sense is simply about not being afraid to put your best foot forward – every day and in every situation. It’s positive growth and development. As author Grant Cardone convincingly says: “Selling is not just a job, selling is a way of life!”
Being an introvert, I’ve always had a hard time with selling. As I said, it has never been one of my strong points. However, I know what it is and I know that it is a necessary part of success. As such, I’ve tried to find different ways to learn how to sell – me.
When a copy of Selling the Secret to Successarrived in my PO Box, I thought I’d give it a read and see if anything in it was useful. Being an avid reader, I’ve stumbled across several good books on management and leadership that have been related to selling, but I had yet to run into a quality book that discussed the art, cultivation, and employment of selling. To my surprise, Grant Cardone not only presented several unique points that I had not run into before, but he also summarized many of the classic points on selling in a manner that I could really resonate with. And no wonder, Grant Cardone is CEO of several multi-million dollar businesses: The Cardone Group, Cardone Training Technologies, and Cardone Real Estate Investments.
The book is broken down into seventeen chapters:
- Selling – A Way of Life
- Salespeople Make the World Go Around
- Professional or Amateur?
- The Greats
- The Most Important Sale
- The Price Myth
- Your Buyer’s Money
- You Are in the People Business
- The Magic of Agreement
- Establishing Trust
- Give, Give, Give
- Hard Sell
- Massive Action
- The Power Base
- Time
- Attitude
- The Biggest Sale of My Life
Each chapter contains a ton of information and personal examples from Cardone’s life, helping you understand exactly what he is talking about and how he made the sale. I’m not going to go into every detail of the book – I’m still digesting and working on them myself – but one that I haven’t run into in other books and that really struck me is his idea of massive action. It’s simple really, but often neglected in today’s world: take massive action, apply that action with consistency, and don’t let anything stand in the way of you taking action. This is one of his keys to success and sales. If you want to be a successful writer, you have to write a massive amount. If you want to be a successful consultant, you have to apply a massive amount of action to get enough clients. If you want to be a successful internet marketer, you need a massive amount of action to generate enough website traffic.
